Happy New Year

Sorry for the lack of posts. We have needed a lot of downtime to recover from the crossing. For the first 3 nights we would wake up every 3 hours ready for our watch! We have been staying in Rodney Bay marina waiting for our tender to be repaired which our retractable bow thruster sliced a hole in. Without a tender we are unable to go to anchor or leave the island. Just before Christmas we sailed with Duplicat for the first time on a catamaran then anchored in Rodney Bay and swam. Day 14; Abandoned Yacht

It was a quiet night. The sea was calm and there was very little light. Dark but not a black night as it is sometimes. It started at 0030 hrs when suddenly the VHF crackled into life, A merchant vessel was calling for a named vessel which I thought to be unusual. There was no reply. About 20 minutes later the call went out into the night once again. No reply. This now had my full attention as any merchant vessel on a collision course would have resolved the issue by now so what was going on? Another 20 minutes

Weary Traveller

Our traveller is being filled in by a welder as it is 50% worn through by the mainsheet shackle. It was a two day job to remove and so far a 1 day job to fit. Sourcing an M12 countersunk bolt took a couple of days. And of course I borrowed an impact driver which had the only bit of it’s kind in Europe; a drag bar socket made for American jeeps. Then I find the poor guy who lent it to me is paid crew and he had to tell the owner…
