Having a Blast!

This place is called Maho; it should be renamed Maaaaaahoooooo! We had forgotten what an Atlantic squall was like so we lined up behind a 747 to get a quick reminder. We love aircraft and the opportunity to get this close is fantastic. We though we would start small and work our way up as we had no experience of jet blast. First out of the gate was a small private jet. That was fun and easy enough. Then the beach started filling and the dive masks went on as we got promoted straight into the 747 league. Since there are only two a week we had to go for it. It shakes aggressively as the power comes on and as the blast hits you so does the sand. Like standing in a wind tunnel you can only really look across the end of the runway unless you have a dive mask on. Those hanging on the fence start to lose their clothes whilst those on the beach, if they lose balance, get swept away. The 747 has quite a smooth spread of power so it’s not that concentrated but we watched a girl line up behind one of the huge twin engined aircraft get blown on her front, down the beach, across the wet sand and into the sea. And she loved it. G0033411aIt’s a popular pastime with the Sunset Bar full of metal bird watchers. The sky is a bit off colour but then it has been raining for days now.G0033411 G0013339 DSC02884 DSC02884a
